Text & Writing Tools covers five ways to work with text you already have: measuring it, comparing two versions, cleaning it up line by line, changing its capitalisation, and generating placeholder copy. The Word Counter reports words, characters, sentences and reading time. Text Diff & Compare highlights what changed between two texts. Text Line Tools sorts, deduplicates or numbers lines. Which tool should I use?
- Use the Word Counter to check length against a form or assignment limit, or to gauge reading time; it counts as you type.
- Use the Case Converter to normalise capitalisation from a messy paste — Title Case capitalises the first letter of every space-separated word, and Sentence case starts a new capital after . ! ? or a line break.
Limitations and things to know
- The Word Counter's sentence and paragraph counts are heuristic: a sentence is a run ending in . ! or ?, so abbreviations and decimals inflate the total, and a paragraph is a block separated by a blank line. The characters-with-spaces total counts code units, so an emoji counts as two.
- Reading time assumes 200 words per minute and is rounded up to at least one minute.
- Case Converter Title Case capitalises every word with no exception for short words like "a" or "of", and Sentence case does not know abbreviations or restore proper nouns.
- The Word Counter accepts up to 200,000 characters and updates after a short pause in typing; the Case Converter accepts up to the shared 2 MB text limit.
