QR Code & Barcode Tools makes and reads machine-readable codes locally. The QR Code Generator encodes text, a link, an email, a phone number, an SMS or Wi-Fi credentials into a QR image with adjustable error correction, colors and size. The QR Code Reader decodes a QR from an image you choose and shows the text without acting on it. The Barcode Generator draws a one-dimensional barcode (CODE128, EAN, UPC, CODE39, ITF-14) as an SVG, validating the value and its check digit. QR and 1D barcodes are different formats for different systems.
Which tool should I use?
- Use the QR Code Generator for anything a phone camera should open — a URL, contact action or Wi-Fi join; pick a mode so the payload is built in the right format.
- Use the Barcode Generator for a retail or logistics 1D barcode; choose EAN/UPC/ITF for numeric GS1 codes, where the check digit is added or verified, or CODE128/CODE39 for free text.
- Use the QR Code Reader to get the text out of a QR image; it reads QR codes only, not Data Matrix or 1D barcodes, and never opens the link it finds.
Limitations and things to know
- The QR payload is capped at about 1,500 bytes, with a readability warning past roughly 800; the tool does not guarantee that every scanner will read a dense code or an unusual color choice — test it.
- The QR Code Reader decodes QR codes only (not Data Matrix, Aztec, PDF417 or 1D barcodes), one code per image, from a PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 10 MB.
- The Barcode Generator covers CODE128, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, CODE39 and ITF-14 — no 2D formats and no EAN-2/EAN-5 add-ons. Numeric formats accept digits only.
- A passing check digit confirms the arithmetic only; it is not proof of GS1 registration, uniqueness, ownership or acceptance by a retailer's database.
